Motor vehicle

Himmelreich is reachable from all directions and means. Directly on the B196 between Bergen and Sellin, it is ideal for travel by car. The island’s beautiful tree-lined alleys and long roads make it a delight to explore by car. Cars can also be rented in nearby Bergen. It is advisable to take care when driving on Rügen. The roads are often narrow, lined with trees and in poor condition. Radar is regularly used in many places on Rügen, so speeding really makes no sense. Slow down and enjoy the beauty.

Ferry

Rügen has a direct ferry connection to Ystad in Sweden from April to October. The FRS high-speed catamaran car ferry crosses the Baltic in just over two hours. Train

Deutschebahn (German Rail) connects Himmelreich to Rostock, Berlin and Hamburg with direct intercity train (IC) connections. There is a weekly direct connection with a sleeper wagon from Basel, Switzerland to Rügen. The train stations in Bergen and Binz are nearest to Himmelreich. Rasenden Roland

Bus

Rügen’s extensive bus system stops just two minutes from Himmelreich and connects you to all parts of the island, to the train stations and to Stralsund. You can reach nearly any place on Rügen by bus. It is even possible to take a bicycle with you on some bus lines in the summer.

Bus line 20 takes you from the train station Bergen to Zirkow and back. In the other direction, line 20 goes to the Serams bus hub, where you can catch a connection to Binz and the train station there. You can take off on a bicycle in any direction from Himmelreich. With mountain bikes, the old tree-line alley towards Prora or through the woods to the beach in Binz. By foot

Once you are at Himmelreich, there are plenty of options for exploring the area by foot in all directions. We are surrounded by stunning landscapes. We will be happy to point out some great routes leading from Himmelreich.

ATM
The nearest ATM is located in the parking lot of Karls Erlebnis-Dorf, 1 km from Himmelreich. At Himmelreich you can pay with EC card, Maestro, Visa and Mastercard. Other ATMs are located in Bergen, Putbus, Binz, Sellin and Baabe.

Bus
The nearest bus stop is along the B196 about 50 meters from Himmelreich. From there you can take the bus to Bergen station and on to Stralsund. Cable Park Zirkow
Just 1.5 km from Himmelreich is the Cable Park Zirkow with a tow rope that makes water skiing and wakeboarding on a sparkling lake a thrilling experience. Well protected, in the valley of a former gravel pit near Zirkow, there is a lake with a beach and bright blue water. Here you can escape for hours from the hectic stress of everyday life. Cycling
Rügen Island is a biker’s paradise. Whether you like touring, off-roading, or racing, there are plenty of trails to enjoy. On our Himmelreich map we have marked some nearby trails. Detailed cycling maps of Rügen are available at the reception.
Your safety is important to us. Especially in summer, the roads on Rügen can be very busy. Not everyone drives safely and some drive very fast. We recommend that anyone who is not used to cycling on busy roads to stay on the bike paths. From Himmelreich in Zirkow you can cycle on unpaved roads without traffic over fields and through the forest to Binz in less than 30 minutes (best with a mountain bike). From there you can easily reach Prora. The bike path to Bergen starts at our parking lot. You can be there in 20 minutes. Ride south through the village and use the bike path just outside of town towards Posewald and Rasenden Roland or on to Putbus and Lauterbach (last section of the road), or to the water to Muglitz where there is a small beach for swimming.
Most buses in summer have bike trailers to take you to and from Binz, Sellin or Bergen back to Himmelreich. You can also head south to Posewald, put your bike on the steam train and then ride along the coast in Binz, Sellin, Baabe or Goehren.

Devices
Of course, you can also use your media devices such as mini sound systems, laptops, tablets, etc. Himmelreich offers free WLAN, but does not guarantee that the service will always be available at the required streaming strength. We disclaim any liability associated with the use of your devices on our premises. Please do not leave laptops or other devices plugged in for extended periods of time while outside the room (fire safety). Our TVs have the current cable outputs to support playback of devices, as long as you have the correct cable with you. You need to use the TV remote control to change the input mode. Please reset it back to normal after use. Guests are responsible for any damage to our equipment. Therefore, please only connect if you know what you are doing. Thank you.

Driving on Rügen

Hiking
Rügen is a hiker’s paradise. No matter in which direction you walk, you will find beautiful landscapes and interesting features. Follow one of the oldest tree-lined avenues of Rügen to the north in the direction of Prora or hike through fields and forests to the east and reach the sand sculpture festival and the beach in Binz within an hour. Walk south and you reach Posewald and the steam train station Rasenden Roland. Walk further and you will reach the beach of Muglitz in about 45 minutes. And if you take the hiking trails to the west, you will reach Bergen in just under an hour. In and around Zirkow you will also find a number of interesting things to do. Karl’s adventure village is only 2 km away. You can find recommended routes on the map.

Horses, carriage rides at the riding school Einhorn – Hof Viervitz
Conveniently located within walking or biking distance is the Viervitz farm, which offers everything for horse lovers – a fascinating place to visit. Horses can be rented for riders of all experience levels, with courses available for children and beginners. Or enjoy an unforgettable island tour in a horse-drawn carriage, which is offered year-round.

The best place to find a gay-friendly environment on Rügen is at the beaches, which are easily accessible from Himmelreich by car, and in some cases by bike, bus or steam train. In general, every nudist beach on Rügen is gay-friendly, although some require more discretion than others. In Binz, the gay-friendly beach is located between stairways 50 and 51.

Naturists / Nudism
Naturism has a long tradition in eastern Germany and on Rügen, which offers many opportunities to enjoy the beach in a natural way. The attitude towards nudity on the beach is generally relaxed on Rügen. Himmelreich Rügen is not a nudist facility due to the mixed nature of our guests. The closest nudist beaches to Himmelreich are located in Sellin, Baabe, Göhren Prora and Binz and can all be reached within 15 to 20 minutes by car. The beaches can also be reached by bus, bicycle or steam train.

Steam train “Rasender Roland
About 2.5 km from Himmelreich is the Posewald station of the Rügener Bäderbahn, affectionately known as “Rasender Roland”. Easily accessible by bike, you can take the bikes on the train and use them for an exciting day trip. This narrow, steam-powered train, built in the 1890s, is still a popular mode of transportation on the island between Putbus and Göhren via Binz. Experience the go-slow romance of the steam era while enjoying breathtaking views of the beautiful Rügen landscape. Hop on and off to explore Putbus, Binz, Selling or Göhren, or visit the Granitz Hunting Lodge along the way.

Rügen’s climate is in the temperate zone. The winters are not particularly cold, with mean temperatures in January and February of 0.0 °C (32.0 °F); and summers are mild and temperate, with a mean temperature in August of 16.3 C (61.3 F). Summer temperatures can peak up to 30 C.

Water quality

The Baltic Sea around Rügen, along with in its inlets, estuaries and bays, are constantly monitored on a regular basis and consistently given top cleanliness ratings. Five beaches on Rügen are marked with water quality flags. A blue flag means the water is clean as can be. Rügen’s beaches and other waterways are generally very clean and litter-free. Wind

Rügen is an island in the Baltic Sea off the north coast of Germany. There is usually some sort of wind on the coast. Himmelreich is in Zirkow, on the east side of the island, towards the center, around 4 km as the crows flies from the sea. It is generally less windy at Himmelreich than on the coast. It is a good idea to come prepared for wind on Rügen according to the season. Kite flyers, windsurfers, sailors and kite sailors are sure to find a breeze to sail on in and around Rügen.

Rain

While Rügen is consistently the sunniest place in Germany, to each garden a bit of rain must fall. The rainiest months are November, December and January. It can also rain some during the summer months. Weather changes quickly on Rügen, so always best to look ahead and plan accordingly.

Snow

The affects of the Baltic Sea on Rügen weather mean that it tends to get less snow than the mainland. The island usually is snow-free through Christmas. The locals say that if it hasn’t snowed by Christmas it isn’t going to snow much at all this season. Nevertheless, snow is to be reckoned with at Himmelreich in the winter. Check the weather forecast to be prepared.
